This was one more lifer for me at LRK. Though a pretty common bird in Europe and Asia, it was the first time I got to see the common crane also called the Eurasian crane. With this I have now clicked the Sandhill, Sarus, Demoiselle and now the common crane.
This is a mid sized crane and has a drooping, bushy ‘cloak’ over the tail. Its body is slaty grey but in contrast, the neck, chin and throat are dark grey to black, with a black forehead and a distinctive white stripe that runs from behind the eye, down the neck and to the upper back. The top of the head bears a red patch of bare skin.
