Lion Tailed Macaque (Macaca silenus)

Managed to get a portrait of this LTM, which are one of the rarest and most threatened primates. The LTMs are endemic to the Western Ghats in India and live in troops of around 10-20. This particular troop was raiding a jackfruit tree by the side of a road.
Take a closer look at its hands and feet and the sitting posture. It invariably reminds one of the Homo sapiens 🙂 We really aren’t that different after all !

  1. Where was this?

    • Hi Dharani,
This was in Valparai. Looks like you have been there too as I saw a LTM among your posts.
Must say you have captured some wonderful pictures.
      Cheers
      Amit
